G.I Bootcamp

Wow, I can't believe that it's the first time ever, our school has made a Manaiakalani movie. Also a movie showing at the film festival from Glen Innes School. Having netbook's is one of the best thing that has happened to our school. Without it we probably wouldn't be having this wonderful opportunity that I am experiencing now.

Making every part of this movie has built our brains but mostly laughter. It was just like an ordinary school day. We worked during the holidays trying to finish it off before the big day. Our school disco was my main topic in the movie sharing how much fun we had there.

Our movie contains activities, learning and shows students that have developed good values during this fantastic year. I had a awesome time making our movie.  I bet you will have fun watching it too.

I got an invitation!

An invitation I say to myself! Well on the 6th of September the students of room 11 and room 12 at Glen Innes School have been invited, to discuss our ideas with the Archimedia group. This group is made up of 3 people. These 3 adults have worked with a lady called Vanessa. Vanessa works for the Auckland City Council.  The Auckland City Council was kind enough to provide 8 million dollars to make this happen, so I would like to thank The Auckland City Council as well. Now you must be thinking, to make what happen? Well these 3 people have different jobs. There jobs are special because they are going to build a Glen Innes Music and Arts Centre For Youth. So Lindsay is an Architect, he is kind of the main person but he has to work with two ladies. There names are Jo and Debbie. Jo helps with the sustainability of this project, and Debbie has a big job, she helps with the landscape of this project as well.

Our teacher Mrs Barry came up with a wonderful idea. Her idea was that if Debbie could plan a flying fox that goes all the way to the aquatic centre that goes pass Elstree Ave, then travels to the Pt England Reserve. Wouldn't that be cool? I also had heaps of ideas myself.

As it was finishing we had a student to say thank you for sharing their splendid idea with Glen Innes School. Both room 11 and room 12 had a great time.

Now it's your turn, before they left they gave us these books. They had their details for people to share their great ideas with them. So head on to this link now:

"Wee o, Wee o, Wee o, Wee o."

“ Wee o, wee o, wee o, wee o.” That was the sound of the loud siren that went off at Glen Innes School. Have you experienced a real live EARTHQUAKE?
Well the National Earthquake Shakedown day was today, Wednesday the 26th, 2012.
If you don’t know what it is, I know that it is a day when all the schools in New Zealand perform an earthquake drill. Maybe the siren rang at other schools as well. The whole school had to do these simple things:

DROP              COVER              HOLD

under their desks. This is a big thing.

Some children don’t take this seriously. They say horrible things and don’t know how it would really feel. I think that all the children with silly behaviour wont know what to do and they would feel more terrified than the others. Miss Barry always puts them in a situation when they are thinking about the children that are in a EARTHQUAKE. Stuff falling on them, getting hit and probably dying through bad wounds. What if that happened to you?

Earthquake drills help children create awareness if they're actually in a real, bad, EARTHQUAKE. I could not bear to be in a real EARTHQUAKE. I absolutely will be frightened and would just probably be crying in fear.

As our teacher was telling us that the people of Christchurch were scared to death when those huge EARTHQUAKES hit. I think they would be too. A student in my class said that when this drill was going on that it didn’t seem like it was going on for 1 minute at all, she felt like it was going on for ages. She felt scared then. As the other students listened to her they all felt the same emotion. All the students were thinking that if this was real, they could imagine the water pipes bursting, and hot water will be flying on them. As well as the ceiling was falling in. They all imagined hugemongous things falling. How terrifying that would be?

It is just so melancholy, hundreds and hundreds of people have died during EARTHQUAKES. Some could have died with poles, parts of the ceiling and different things on top of them. New Zealand has had a few EARTHQUAKES but not as much or as bad as Christchurch.

Serious damage has happened to Christchurch. Such as buildings, families and their houses. They go to places where they sleep, drink and go to the toilet. Because many of them still don’t have any of those things in their houses today.

Have you been in a EARTHQUAKE? Well if you haven’t, remember the things that I told you before. Practise with your family as you would normally do this with a fire drill. Because you don’t know what will happen anytime, anywhere and still the thing that I am sure you will remember is to:

A healthy start

Five plus a day is what I say,
So eat your colours everyday.
When you eat it, your love it.
So junk food is a waste of time,
So take my advice and you'll be fine.

Crunch, crunch, crunch," went the sound of the tasty lettuce in my sandwich. Glen Innes school is going five plus a day.  " You have to get creative, " Says one of the teachers.

As Mr Hendricks our Principal says the prayer, in my head I am thinking about how creative I am going to be. There was cucumbers, lettuce, grated carrots, grated cheese, ham, and tuna mixed with apple was provided by Pak' n Save, which is our sponsor for this term.

Tuna and apple! You must be saying to yourself, how revolting that will taste? But to be honest you should just try something  new. Firstly you can start by cutting some apples up in small pieces, then just add the apples to the tuna. Add salt, pepper and a bit of lemon juice, then your finished. Its quick, simple and excellent for kids lunches. So just take that challenge and do it some day. You will love it.
